Overview

Are you looking for a great reporting opportunity in a growing suburban environment just minutes from big-city amenities? The DeSoto Times-Tribune, a small, family-owned newspaper located just outside of Memphis in the “Top of Mississippi,” has an opening for a full time reporter. While our focus is on community news, there is no shortage of hard news headlines. DeSoto County is the fastest-growing county in Mississippi and just 15 minutes from downtown Memphis and Beale Street. We compete head-to-head on news coverage with the newspapers and TV stations in Memphis, as well as online news. We are looking for a flexible reporter. In a typical week, you could be out covering the County Board of Supervisors meeting on a Monday, Board of Aldermen meeting on Tuesday, a major business announcement on Wednesday, School Board on a Thursday, and fun features on weekends. Our staff is small, but the opportunities to grow as a reporter are unlimited.

Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field is required and at least two years of experience working in a professional newsroom is preferred, although we will consider a recent graduate. You’ll need to be able to handle several stories and projects at once, take photos, cover breaking news for our website, and possess good news judgment. Layout and graphic design are a plus, but not a requirement. We offer a flexible work schedule, but some nights and weekends are required. If you are ready to take your career to the next level and join an exciting news team, we would love to hear from you. This is not a remote position.
