This position involves work that is professional in nature. The successful candidate will execute day-to-day activities in the Public Information section of the Programs and Communication Division. Duties include planning, researching, and writing press releases for media outlets, and developing and distributing brochures and other materials for public consumption. The incumbent will help with social media outreach, post calendar listings on the department’s website, and assist with department programs as needed.
Additional duties include designing brochures, developing social media posts and marketing materials, and other duties as assigned. The work is subject to frequent review by the Director of Programs and Communication Division.
Public relations experience and strong writing and interpersonal skills are preferred for this position.
Education and experience criteria
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university
- Knowledge of Mississippi history
- Strong writing and interpersonal communication skills
- Familiarity with CMS (content management software)
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite
